We (Cooper and I) just returned from our trip to Prince Edward Island, Canada to visit Kirk’s family. Kirk will be coming home on Sunday. We had a great trip. The weather, unfortunately, didn’t cooperate with us most days and it was rainy and cooler – but it was still a great time!
Our trip coincided with the end of PEI Old Home Week, which is a week long event that has a fair, harness races, agricultural and live stock shows, concerts, and much more.
On Friday, we went to the Gold Cup and Saucer Parade. It was a rainy day, but we found a spot on a hill under a tree where we were mostly protected from the elements. Kirk’s favorite was the bagpipes. Cooper’s favorite was giant Cookie Monster which he kept calling Elmo. My favorite were the Shriners.
The next day, we toured around the grounds. While we were watching some of the horses practice, the guy who drove the starting car drove up to near where we were standing, parked and got out. Cooper saw him as a way to get closer to the horses, so he just put his hands out for the guy. The nice guy took Cooper and they stood right at the edge of the track for a few minutes just watching the horses go by. Cooper kept yelling “more!” He made Cooper’s day.
We also walked around and Cooper made friends with some cows.
Too bad this picture is blurry – Cooper’s excitement was so adorable.
We tried to ride some of the rides at the fair, but there wasn’t one single ride that Cooper could go on – even if one of us went with him! To say he was a disappointed would be an understatement – he was crushed!!
We did lots of other fun things. We went to visit the 2014 Celebrations which are 150 events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference. They had a great kids tent where Cooper loved playing with the legos.
We visited the Charlottetown waterfront and the famous Cows Ice Cream.
One of the rainy days, we took Cooper to “That Fun Place” which is just an indoor play place for kids. He didn’t have any fun. Nope. Not one bit of fun.
Cooper met his great grandma. I wish Kirk was in this picture – but he was the one taking it. I would have loved to have 4 generations in the picture.
We cooked lobsters.
On our last day, we drove up to our sister-in-laws family cottage. The day started out rainy and cold, but ended up to be beautiful.
We went down to the ocean to have a look. The sand is absolutely gorgeous – red and so soft. But that water – that’s a different story! Brrr….sure looks cold!
Hmm….that doesn’t seem to be stopping him.
Yikes Cooper – you are almost blue! I don’t know who is colder here – Cooper or Kirk.
But this is the face I got when I asked if he had fun and wanted to go back in. Crazy kid!
All that ice cold water sure tired Cooper out.
During his nap, we all went walking on the beach.
After nap, we tried to do the ocean again, this time prepared in swimming clothes. But I think he had enough of the ocean and barely wanted to go in.
On the long drive home, Cooper and I occupied ourselves by taking selfies 🙂
And that’s pretty much our trip! See you soon Canada!
