Weight: His official stats from his 6 month pediatrician’s appointment:
- Weight: 17 lbs, 8 oz (50th percentile)
- Height: 27.5 inches (80th percentile)
- Head Size: 43.5 cm (35th percentile)
Still a tall skinny boy!
Clothes: He’s wearing 9 month in onesies and pajamas. The onesies are almost too short for him – but hopefully they will last a little longer. Pants are 6-12 months.
Health: He had lots of vaccines at his appointment. I don’t know if it was related to the vaccines, but that afternoon he threw up during his nap. He was at my parent’s house at the time and they were so worried about him! Poor little guy. He did seem ok later on – just a little fussier than normal. But the next day he was back to normal.
He’s still taking Prevacid for his reflux, and the doctor recommends that he continues to take it since he still spits up about once a day.
At the last appointment, she recommended that I start giving him iron drops. It wasn’t really related to anything specific for him, just a general recommendation for breastfed babies around this age. Well, I had tried giving them to him but they just tasted horribly. So we didn’t continue them. During his appointment, she did check his iron levels and they were on the lower side of normal. I am still not crazy about giving him the drops since he hated them so much so we will have to be a little creative. We might mix them in to his food or milk every once in a while. I’m also going to start taking iron rich pre-natal vitamins again. And he can start having some pureed meat in a couple of weeks. She wants me to come back at the beginning on September to check his levels again – so hopefully all those things combined will bring his levels up.
Sleep: He sometimes wakes up around midnight but he quickly puts himself back to sleep. Then he usually wakes up again around 2-3am to eat. And he’s up for the day around 5:30-6am. The doctor said that it’s actually normal for breastfed babies to continue to wake up in the middle of the night to eat. So I may have this to look forward to for the next ~6 months.
He does really well going down for the night (much better than when he goes down for naps). After I feed him, I put him in his crib and he usually plays and rolls around for like 15-20 minutes before he falls asleep. I think he’s practicing his tricks so he can show off to us.
A couple of his favorite sleeping positions: On his side and on his stomach with his butt up in the air.
Crying: He had a fussy day on Saturday. I think his teeth might be starting to bother him again. The doctor says that his gums look like they are in the beginning stages of teething. They are getting wider and starting to get humped. They aren’t red and puffy yet – so once that happens we will know that the teeth are about to pop!
Social and Activity: Cooper went to another Polish party at my parent’s house on Saturday and did wonderfully. I was really impressed with how good he was – especially considering it was right before bedtime which is usually his fussiest time!
Kirk and I take Cooper for a long walk to Starbucks every Saturday and Sunday morning. But we aren’t the only ones who do. There are so many kids there – I think he really enjoys watching the other kids.
Likes and Dislikes: Likes sitting in his high chair (I think he likes being able to see from a different angle). Loves his bath time. Likes drinking out of a straw. Likes toys that make music and sounds.
Dislikes – getting in and out of his car seat and getting saline drops up his nose.
Diet: Still breastfeeding. This week we added prunes in his diet because of his slight constipation. I think they made him gassier than normal and didn’t help with the problem. He’s also been less enthusiastic about eating lately and is harder to feed. He did have some Baby Mum Mums this weekend and LOVED them. I had gotten them from a coworker so I never really looked at what was in them before, but I looked at the ingredients after he ate them and I’m not too thrilled about their low nutritional value. And they are made in China. I kind of question the quality standards of baby food in general, much less something made in China. So I think I’m going to have to look for another alternative. My pediatrician said he could start eating Cheerios – but I don’t know if he’s ready for that!
Milestones: He is getting better at sitting up by himself and can do if for a minute or two before he topples over.
He can flip over from his back to his stomach like a champion. And he’s trying to hard to crawl!! He can lift his butt all the way up – and can move backwards. I know it frustrates him because he really wants to go forward.
Weekly Random Moments: We met with a potential day care lady on Sunday and Cooper really liked her. So I think we have found someone! Yay!
