Weight: 17 lbs 1 oz.
Clothes: He’s outgrown all his 6 month onesies and tops. The 9 month ones are kind of tight too. And depending on the brand, the 12 month ones are also tight. In bottoms, he’s wearing 6-12 months. Looks like I might have to go find a few pieces of summer clothes to get us through the next couple months. He’s wearing size 3 diapers.
Health: His allergies were acting up this week because we had to use the saline drops a lot. Poor guy. He just hates getting the saline drops. Other than that – healthy little man!
Sleep: He’s back to getting up 2-3 times a night instead of 1-2. So we are working on letting him put himself back to sleep. This has been really hard since it means letting him cry a bit more than normal. But each night it’s getting better and better and he’s having an easier time putting himself back to sleep.
Even though we put him to sleep on his back, he’s been turning over and falling to sleep on his stomach lately. I’m sure it’s ok at this stage now that he has more strength, but it still freaks me out.
Crying: Mostly when he’s tired or trying to fight going to sleep.
Social and Activity: This week we celebrated 4th of July and Cooper attended another Polish party. We had to leave early for bath time, and then Kirk and I just watched the local fireworks from our deck.
On Friday I took the day off and we met up with my friend Melissa. Cooper and I got to hang out with her two boys. Saturday was spent house hunting downtown (we are looking to invest in a rental property) and Cooper did surprisingly well while we carted him around from place to place. Sunday was the usual family dinner at my parent’s house.
Likes and Dislikes: Likes sucking on anything frozen/cold, playing the piano, being outside and grabbing at all the flowers.
Cooper loves cups and bottles and is always trying to grab for whatever we are drinking. I got him some sippy cups to try out this week to see if he will be able to start drinking by himself.
He’s starting to not like his bath time as much as before. I don’t know what happened, but he just doesn’t seem to relax like he used to.
Still hates being put in and taken out of his car seat. And he hates getting his face washed or his nose cleaned. I think the face washing might stem from the nose cleaning – he thinks that whenever anyone gets near his face they are going to torture him with the saline drops.
Diet: Guess who started eating solid foods this week?!?! Good-bye newborn baby – hello stinky diapers! We started off with sweet potatoes, and then after a few days moved to carrots. He was confused after his first bite of the sweet potatoes. I don’t think he really knew what to make of the different texture. But after a bite or two, he got the hang of it and he’s been loving it ever since! It was also surprisingly much less messy than I would have assumed – at least for now. I’m sure that will all change once he starts feeding himself.
Here, let me help you dad.
Give me more!
Yum yum yum!
My mom and I have been making all his food so far (I did the sweet potatoes, she did the carrots) and will probably continue to do so. It’s so easy to do, much cheaper and less wasteful than buying everything pre-packaged. Plus I know exactly what is in his food. It’s so easy to cook a big batch and then just freeze the leftovers for future use!
Milestones: So many milestones this week! His first solid food (sweet potatoes) followed by carrots.
He’s really doing great at rolling from his back to his stomach. He’s not as good rolling from his stomach to his back. He’s getting better and better at balancing while sitting – but still can’t sit independently.
He is starting to do a little backwards army crawl.
He has such great hand-eye coordination and moves toys between hands with no problems.
Weekly Random Moments: Every weekend morning we take a walk to Starbucks. We usually stop at the grocery store first and pick up some donuts. And then sit outside at Starbucks and eat our donuts and drink coffee. Cooper loves grabbing at our coffee cups – so we usually just get him an empty kids size cup to play with. He loves his Starbucks as much as his dad does!
The second set of birds that were nesting in our yard this week hatched. First it was the robins that hatched and flew away a few weeks ago. This time it was the turtle doves. They hatched a few weeks ago, and this week they all flew away.
