Weight: Cooper’s last weigh in (on Monday night) was 8 lbs 15 oz – so close to 9 lbs! Wow! Our little man is growing so quickly!
Health: Cooper has been having stuffy noses most of the week. We put a humidifier in his room and have been giving him some saline drops. I think that seems to help clear it out a little bit so he can breathe better. He has also have been having a lot of gas. We have been giving him gas drops to help. Luckily he loves taking drops of any kind (gas drops or vitamin drops).
Sleep: During the night Cooper sleeps AWESOME. Cooper usually nurses and falls right back asleep without any issue. It means that Kirk and I do get a good amount of sleep most nights. Some nights he will go 5-6 hours between feedings. He even has woken up several times at night and puts himself back to sleep without crying.
During the day – his sleep is a bit more challenging. He can only fall asleep when someone is holding him. Once he does fall asleep, he usually sleeps good. But the hard part is getting him to fall asleep. I think we need to start trying to put him down in his crib while he’s awake and letting himself fall asleep on his own.
Crying: Cooper still has a fussy period at night-time and random ones throughout the day. He loves being held and hates when we put him down. As much as we both love cuddling with him, it does get tiring. We have tried putting him in a bouncer and swing, and he screams and screams in them. We are starting to figure out what calms him down though.
Social and Activity: We have had lots of very awesome visitors bringing us dinner. I have barely cooked since he was born! It is awesome.
Likes: Cooper loves music. He doesn’t like Adele, but loves the Lumineers and Mumford & Sons. He calms down instantly when we play the music. He also does like being sung to – if I have trouble putting him to sleep at night about 10 rounds of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” usually does the trick.
The other thing that Cooper loves is bath time. We put him in the kitchen sink, and then turn on the faucet so he’s getting a mini shower throughout his bath. It keeps him warm and calms him down so much. After the bath, we give him a little blow dry and he loves it too. He loves the warm air on his head (don’t worry – we aren’t holding it too close so it’s too hot) and he loves the sound. It’s a sure-fire way to relax him after an especially fussy day.
Clothes: his newborn sizes are starting to get tighter but his 0-3 clothes is still a little baggy. We did move him up to size 1 diapers since the newborn sizes were getting too tight on him.
Diet: Breastfeeding is going great. He still favors my right side, but will nurse from the left if I give it to him first.
Baby Gear Love: We did pull out his activity mat this week, and he seems to really like it. He will sit on it for 15-20 minutes just playing with the toys. It’s really fun to watch him looking at all the different toys and trying to grab them. He especially loves this one black and white star that crinkles when you grab it.
Milestones: Cooper is grabbing at the toys on his activity mat. His neck strength continues to improve and does great holding his head up when I hold him upright. We are trying to give him tummy time – which he still doesn’t like. We will keep on trying and hopefully that changes soon!
