Cooper is 2 weeks old! Where does the time go?
STOP TAKING PICTURES OF ME MOM!
Weight: 7 lbs 11 oz (80th percentile) . Up 14 oz since his last weigh in. What a champ! His weight gain makes me feel so much better about how I’m doing breastfeeding him. He also grew from 20 inches to 21 inches (50th percentile). I’m impressed by how much he is growing!
Health: Cooper is healthy but I have a little sore throat and a stuffy nose. I bet the reduced sleep isn’t helping me. He had a little tear duct blockage when he was born that was causing some buildup around his eyes, but it seems to almost be cleared up.
He also has great neck control for his age. He can raise his head to almost a 45 degree angle and prop himself up on his arms when he’s laying on my chest.
Sleep: Cooper is an awesome sleeper at night. He’s sleeping in his crib like a champ – and has a couple 3 hours stretches at night which means I actually get pretty decent sleep. He still has a hard time falling asleep on his own though and will only stay asleep if you put him down when he’s asleep. During the day though, he has a hard time sleeping unless he is sleeping on someone. He just loves to cuddle.
Clothes: still wearing mostly newborn and some 0-3 month clothes. Newborn pants fit him the best. I notice that the newborn sized diapers are starting to get snug. We might move up to Stage 1 diapers when the newborn ones run out later this week.
Social: This week I have noticed that he’s so much more alert during his awake time. He is looking around more and I think he’s starting to focus on objects. I am starting to see some small smiles from him too. Auntie D and Uncle DH came and visited him this week and were so helpful to me! Having an extra pair of hands around is always appreciated.
Coop doing his mummy arms – this just cracks me up.
Diet: We are still working on getting the hang of breastfeeding. Once he does latch on, he seems to do well. I am sometimes worried that he isn’t getting enough food, but his quantity of dirty and wet diapers and his weight gain tell me that he’s doing just fine. I need to try to relax about it because I am sure stressing about it isn’t making for a peaceful environment for him.
Baby Gear Love: The Baby Connect app. It makes tracking feeding times (and so many other things like diapers, weight, etc) so much easier. What did people do before smartphones?
Milestones: Cooper had his first (and second) trip to Target – maybe not a traditional baby milestone but it’s a milestone for me! His umbilical cord also fell off. Now we can give him real baths!
