Due to the upcoming changes in the Taylor household, we decided to cross some projects off our list this month.
First, we are replacing the carpet upstairs with hardwood floors. We did the main floor a couple of years ago and just loved how it turned out. So now the whole house, except the stairs leading to the basement, will be hardwoods. We just love hardwoods so much; not only do they look so nice, but they are so clean. With carpet, even if you vacuum all the time, you never know what’s really under there.
The flooring guys started last Monday, and today they are putting the baseboards back on and doing the final coats of finish. I think by the end of the day it will be all done! Then we can start cleaing up, repainting all the baseboards, doing touch-ups to the paint, and moving our furniture back in.
The wood just chilling in our house waiting – it has to sit for at least a week to acclimatize to the conditions in the house. This will help prevent warping and gaps later on.
Bye bye carpet!
A work in progress
Installed and all ready to be stained!
We are also replacing the counters in our kitchen with slab granite and getting a new kitchen sink. I don’t have pictures of the sink, but it will be a stainless steel farmhouse sink – it is absolutely gorgeous!! Our granite is called Ciantus and it’s such a perfect match to our kitchen. It goes with the existing cabinets and has tiny flecks of silver in it to really coordinate with the stainless steel sink and appliances. Kirk and my dad will hopefully install the sink this weekend, and then the granite guys can come make the templates for the granite.
Here is what we are thinking for the backsplash. We’ll make the final decision after the counters are in and we get a better idea of what the space looks like.
I am so excited for all this to be done so I can have my house back!!
