This past weekend was so beautiful (record of 84 on Sunday – so nice!!!!) that it was the perfect time to do more spring yardwork. I planted more things and cleaned up the yard a bit more.
Kirk was studying again, but helped me with the bigger bushes. This year I also planted blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry bushes. I loved having the fresh tomatoes last year, so hopefully these will do well so I can have fresh berries this summer or the next! I should have read a little more on the blueberries before I planted them. Apparently they really love acidic soils (which I don’t have and can never properly treat to make them that way), so I doubt that they are going to do well. Fingers crossed on the blackberries and raspberries, though!
No matter how much I think I’m cleaning up, there is still always more to do. My dad came over on Sunday afternoon to help power vacuum under some bushes. I pick up as much as I can by hand every year, but it’s amazing the leaves and spruce needes and other yard junk that accumulates under the bushes and trees each year. I actually made fun of my parents a couple weekends ago for vacuuming their yard, but after seeing that machine in action for about 2 minutes I am a firm believer. It cleans everything and then mulches it so you can even use it for compost if you want! It’s amazing!!
