I just got back from the most relaxing and fun weekend. My sister and I went to Miraval Spa (http://www.miravalresorts.com/) outside Tucson Arizona for a “bachelorette” weekend before her wedding. The whole weekend was filled with so many amazing experiences.
We attended all sorts of great classes; including a photography class, a class on ageless beauty and taking care of your skin, a drumming class, as well as a few fitness classes. We also had a couple great cooking demonstrations where we learned some great recipes. Speaking of food, all the meals were just awesome. Everything is spa cuisine, so very super healthy. Small portion sizes (or really normal portion sizes – we are just so used to humongous sizes) and all natural and healthy ingredients. Some of the most delicious things we had were a scallop dish with a sweet corn sauce and an ahi tuna and wasabi tartar. Here is a shot of the restaurant first thing in the morning.
I had three wonderful massage treatments – my favorite of which was called the Hammam and consisted of a full body exfoliation with coffee beans, then a hydrating full body mask, and then a massage.
We also did the Miraval Equine Experience. There we learned about horses and how our behaviors effect horses. It was amazing how much the horses could read into our body language. There was one portion where we went into the ring and we were able to control the horse’s movements just based on our posture. It was really cool.
We also did an activity called the “Quantum Leap.” In this challenge activity, one person climbs up this 35 foot telephone pole and stands on this tiny platform which is approximately the size of a turkey roasting pan. Then your partner climbs up the pole, and then they have to get on the platform with you. The whole time the pole is shaking and you have to maintain your balance. The key is to breathe and meditate on how peaceful and beautiful it is up on the top of the pole and not worry about anything below you. Then you both jump off it and swing to the ground. It was scary – but so empowering and fun!
The landscaping around the spa was so beautiful. Here are just a few pictures of all the flora around the property.
Me and a snake that was crossing our path one morning. We spent the rest of the trip trying to find him again, but no luck!
And lastly – the crazy huge grasshoppers that were near our room. These things were a good 3 inches long – almost prehistoric looking.
