First Ski Day of the Season

This year Colorado has been having a very dry winter. Not much snow in the mountains. This doesn’t make for good skiing. Last year we had a record season – but Kirk and I were super busy at work and were only able to make it up once. This year is looking to be busy at work as well but I’m determined to sneak away and go skiing a few times. I can’t let my ski pass go to waste again!

On Saturday I went skiing with my parents (Kirk had to go into work and is also recovering from bronchitis). The mountain just had a foot of snow in the past day – so the conditions actually weren’t too bad. I found plenty of places with nice soft powder.

One of the funnest parts of the drive up (because the traffic is not fun and neither is getting up super early) is looking for animals on the side of the road. I usually only spot a couple big horn sheep – but this day we saw a whole herd of them!

Dining in Denim

As I get older and become more comfortable in life, the more that I realize how lucky we really are and how important it is to give back and help whatever we can. And it’s a double bonus when you can combine a night of doing good with a night of fun. Saturday we put on our cowboy boots and attended Dining in Denim – a fundraiser for the Freedom Foundation. Such a fun event and all for a great cause.

Kitchen Redo

Our new kitchen table. I love the chunky clean lines. Also the bench is wonderful – I think it really opens up the kitchen. Our old table has moved on to bigger and better things – we sold it on Craigslist and it will be featured in an upcoming production at the DCPA.

Sunny San Francisco

Another work trip for Kirk to the city by the bay – and that means another trip to San Francisco for us to go visit D&D.

Yummy pizza from Piccino - this one is is the squash, gorgonzola, fennel, and pickeled onion. Sounds strange – tastes awesome.

Fly Away

A new year! You know what that means. Resolutions! And new calendars. I do better with calendars than I do with resolutions.

I always love picking out a calendar for the wall in my office. This year I picked up one that shows bridges from all over the world (including one that we visited in Prague that we visited last year).

My boss also gave me this one which I think is perfect for a travel loving aviation engineer!

Another fun NYE for Team Taylor. We all met for drinks, had dinner at Street Kitchen Asian Bistro, and then went back to our place for some Wii Just Dance and Guitar Hero. We didn’t go to sleep until 4am so needless to say I was exhausted the next day.

Despite my really serious guitar face, I still did horribly at Guitar Hero. I don’t think I’ll quit being an engineer to become a rock star.

Visiting the great white north

This week I had to fly up to Anchorage for a quick work trip. It was my first time in Alaska and unfortunately it had to be in the winter. I was here right before the winger solstice, so there was approximately 5 1/2 hours between sunrise and sunset. Wow. I’m not a fan of cold or dark, so probably not the best place to visit right now.

I don’t have any really interesting pictures since I was in meetings all day, but here is a shot from outside out meeting and from the yummy Moose’s Tooth pizza.
